My Emergency Caesarean Birth Story.
Hi Melissa,
I hope this message finds you well.
I wasn’t quite sure how to start this rather long message, or whether I should even send it, but I decided to because I needed to say thank you!
I completed your online hypnobirthing course with my first pregnancy, in 2016. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Ruby in February 2017. Hypnobirthing was the reason why I was able to have a successful, induced but natural, drug-free birth. It was an amazing experience 🙌🏼
When I fell pregnant again, 4 months after having Ruby, I immediately began my hypnobirthing relaxation and meditation practice again, including a revisit to the online course. I was determined to have an even more amazing experience hypnobirthing my second baby.
Due to some medical concerns (same as first pregnancy), I was induced again and this time was placed on a syntocin drip straight away. For 6 hours I was hypnobirthing like a boss! I thought to myself, I’m so relaxed I could fall asleep. Even as the surges became stronger I just found myself more in the zone. I actually started to imagine writing to you, thanking you for what an amazing experience you had given me, for my second birth.
Unfortunately, baby had other plans and I was rushed to theatre for an emergency caesarean (prolonged fetal bradycardia). It was a very intense few minutes as I was whisked away from my husband and prepped for surgery. I felt out of control but did my absolute best to maintain my breathing and calmness (to which midwives commented later, how calm I appeared whilst everything was going on around me). I had a general anaesthetic, so when I woke to the news I’d given birth to a beautiful and perfectly healthy baby boy, Roczen, I was so happy.
During the caesarean, my uterus tore and I required a blood transfusion due to heavy bleeding. I was incredibly emotional the first few days after having Roczen and I told my husband that I didn’t think I could have any more babies, to which he agreed.
Following Roczen’s dramatic entry to the world, I had an infection of my caesarean wound, trouble sleeping and difficulty breastfeeding. Throughout it all, I used my hypnobirthing breathing techniques, which initially took me back to the labour room and being rushed to theatre. However, I worked through all of that anxiety with the tools I learnt from you and I can now say I am at 11 weeks postpartum with a happy, healthy mind and a baby sleeping through the night, thanks in no small part to the calm you have brought to our lives.
I am sorry this thank you turned into a novel, but I’m not sorry I wrote it. I loved the two beautiful birth experiences I’ve had, thanks to your hypnobirthing program. I recommend it to all new mums to be and I look forward to one day using it again when we decide to have baby number three.
